What is Direct To Garment Printing?
Direct to garment printing, also known as DTG printing, is the process of printing straight onto textiles and garments using specialised water based ink jet technology.
Unlike screen printing which involves creating a screen to apply each layer of ink onto the printing surface. Direct to garment printing allows you to print the image onto the garment at one time.
This allows for a photographic print, which has much more detail than traditional screen printing. The design is processed and printed digitally which allows for one off prints, or quantity prints.

What you will need to set up for DTG Printing.
Machines Plus supply the M-Series Direct to Garment printers – M2 and the M6 Industrial DTG Printers. They deliver a print platform specific for textile applications. The DTG M-Series allows for greater resolutions and ink drop technology, this is achieved through it’s firmware system.
You can print a completely new range of products with the scalable platens ranging from 2-8 shirts, hooded jumpers, all over jeans, and even clothing panels. The DTG M-Series allows for production in an extremely flexible and time-saving way.
The M-Series is able to print a greater number of garments in one sitting. While not lowering the resolution or print quality on the garment. Businesses all over the world such as print shops, designers, photographers, ect can now have a garment printing solution. Which is entirely flexible and allows for a greater rate of product printing whilst maintain excellent quality.
The M-Series utilises brand new iQ Interweave technology, which is at the centre of development in textile decoration. This new form of science allows for exceptional flexibility and printing quality for a wide variety of garments.
It allows for a greater amount of ink to be used for a greater number of pieces, perfect for creating more productivity and less wastage.
Ink and Pretreatment.
The selection of ink and pretreatment is important to achieve a good quality end product. Poor quality inks can cause the print to creak, peel or be washed out.
Machines Plus recommends the Image Armor Inks and Pretreatments. We have found that they provide a print with greater detail and colour variation.
The selection of heat press is just as important as the selection of a DTG printer and ink. You need a good quality press as this will remove moisture from your garments before you print. It will also cure the inks onto the garment. If your heat press does not hold it temperature properly, it will effect your final printed product.
At Machines Plus we suggest the HIX 650P.
Garment choice is important this can make or break your final product. At Machines Plus we offer 2 different brands of garments.
The RTP Apparel garment have already been pre treated with Image Armor Ultra Pretreatment. This means that the garments are ready to print on, so it eliminates one step in the DTG process. All you need to do is PRESS, PRINT & CURE.
